Pirates- Pirate parties are so much fun for boys! Parents could send out invitations asking guests to come dressed in pirate attire or could make costume crafts for each guest.  Whetherpeg-legged or hook-handed, every pirate isn’t complete without a feathered hat.  Buy feathers that are large such as ostrich plumes.  Unlike white feathers, these large feathers have “fingers” and movement.  They can be attached to the sides of pre-bought hats or on cardstock paper hats. If it is a Peter Pan themed party with Captain Hook adversaries, you could also make smaller green craft hats from paper with yellow craft feathers for accents.

Every pirate party needs to have a treasure hunt and maybe a blindfolded treasure dig.  For party favors chocolate coins covered in gold foil and compasses are great.

Princess- At one time or another all girls ask for a princess party. Feathers are easily incorporated into this royal theme.  Castle shaped cakes, sparkly gowns, and wands are whimsical necessities at any princess party.  Girls could make princess hats by securing paper into a cone shape and top with ostrich feathers.  Hair tinsel would also make for a fun party favor or dress up accessory.  Girls would love anything with glitter or jewels so be sure to have those on hand to adhere to the wand or crown.

For extra princess party fun try high heel relays, pin the face on the mirror and a jewel hunt.  Sending guests home with costume jewelry and princess crowns will be popular with girls.  Accompanying brothers or any boy guests would probably enjoy a plastic sword or shield more than anything with glitter so don’t forget a party favor for them, as well.
